Time: 8:00 AM – 8:45 AM on Race Day. Bring your cart and your helmet to the pits. Marshals will inspect your brakes, steering, and wheels. No pass, no race. Pick up your cart number, race lanyard and transponder from the Event Desk located near Al’s Auto Parts.

Yes, you can. However, you will not be included in the official heats. You will however, get to have a couple of goes racing down Sanger Street. 

We are a community-based event with volunteer staffing – and everything we can do to streamline the event is encouraged.
To get your cart on the starting line, follow these steps. Pre-registration is highly recommended to ensure your spot in the heats.
  1. Review the Specs Before you enter ensure your cart meets the specifications and read the Rules and Regulations. Common requirements include:
  • Steering: Must be functional and safe (rope steering is often permitted in lower classes; fixed steering for Pros).
  • Brakes: Effective braking systems are mandatory.
  • Dimensions: Maximum width and length restrictions usually apply to fit the lanes.
  • Safety Gear: All drivers must wear an approved safety helmet, enclosed footwear, long sleeves, and long pants.
  • Transponder: All carts will need to be fitted with a transponder to record your race times. You will need to have a steel or stainless-steel block for the magnets to stick.

1. Racing commences at 9 am.
2. Entrants are organised into age classes with qualifying and finals run in the following order:
  • 9 Years and under (3 entrants per race)
  • 10 to 13 Years
  • 14 to 17 Years
  • All Schools Challenge
  • 60 Plus
  • Open Class (18 Years and Over)
  • Community Service Challenge 
All School’s Challenge is open to all primary or secondary schools. The driver can nominate one school that he/she will represent. Winners of the All-School Challenge agree to display the perpetual trophy at their school for the duration of one year. The winner must return the trophy at the next Australian Billy Cart Championship event.
Winners, 2nd and 3rd place of each age category will receive a trophy. The winner of the All Schools Challenge will get to keep the trophy at their school for 12 months. 
There are four hire carts per category. You will be randomly be nominated a cart and this will remain your cart while you are in the race. You may not have the same cart for each heat.
